ASSENT STEEL Sustainable Initiatives

Over the past 20 years sustainable building practices and outcomes have moved from theory to practice. Structural steel being a prime green construction material, structural steel products are comprised of recycled steel scrap with the steel industry being the largest recycler of waste by mass in the United States. Fabricated structural steel used for structural framing systems has an average recycled content of 93%. The success of steel recycling is a great example of sustainable practices on an industry wide scale. Over the past three decades, the steel industry has reduced greenhouse gas and overall emissions by 36% and increased the water recycling rate of steel production to 95%.

Sustainable Initiatives at ASSENT STEEL:
 

ASSENT STEEL Clean Up Drive 2022

In our ongoing efforts towards a Sustainable future and our promise to preserve and protect the environment, we at ASSENT Steel, organized a Cleanup initiative at Al Marmoom for our staff volunteers and their families’. The Clean Up Drive held Sunday, 13th February was in partnership with Dubai Municipality, Dubai Racing Club, Emirates Racing Authority and Dubai Equestrian Club.

A big thank you to all our volunteers for playing their part in helping protect the environment.

 

Blood Donation 

ASSENT STEEL, through its CSR program, ASSENT Cares, in partnership with Blood Donors 4 U(BD4U), organized a blood donation drive to help the needy people on emergency situations all over the UAE.

ASSENT STEEL was represented by 105 blood donors and a handful of volunteers in our Blood Donation Drive The event successfully registered a total of 325 donors and resulted to 255 bags of blood and 22 platelet units, all of which was handed over to Latifa Blood Bank (UAE centralized blood bank).

Our team met different donors, volunteers, doctors, nurses, and representatives from Dubai Health Authority, and we all witnessed a remarkable turnout with a great, friendly, supportive and organized event. ASSENT STEEL Team was well appreciated for its outstanding support, being well organized and discipline to follow the strict COVID-19 protocols during the event. 

ASSENT STEEL is committed to the economic, social and environmental efforts that brings about positive transformations in our community.

 

Reducing the Transportation Footprint – Car Pooling

In total, carpooling saves more than 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 a year- study. Another research’s finding also stated that employees carpooling both on the way to work and home can potentially decrease 22%-28% CO2 emissions.

At ASSENT STEEL, carpooling is a regular practice. Around 50-60% of our employees practice carpooling and Vanpooling. It not only increases positive impact on the environment but also the encouragement of interaction between employees during these trips.

 

Water and Energy Conservation

As global awareness around sustainability issues increases, Sustainability initiatives don’t always have to come from the top down. Employees provide valuable contributions too.

At ASSENT STEEL, we have started several initiatives to help in our Sustainability efforts through reduced electricity and water consumption.

We have installed light motion sensors in key areas where people don’t go so often, the lights turn off automatically when nobody is there in those areas which ultimately saves electrical energy.

We have also installed water motion sensors in our toilets to reduce the water consumption.

A sustainable workplace produces happier and motivated workers, which eventually increase employee productivity and fewer work-related hazards, illnesses, and mishaps. This is fundamental to boosting the overall revenue and reputation of the organization.
